Saxophonist, Composer, Teacher
Jonah Peters is a saxophonist based in Waterloo Region. A recent graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University’s saxophone performance program, he has studied with acclaimed musicians such as saxophonists Dave Wiffen and Alex Dean, and pianists Kevin Day and Adrean Farrugia. Peters’ interests lie in pushing the boundaries of the saxophone through electronic textures and modifications. Since 2023, Peters has acted as the bandleader for The Stack, a jazz-fusion group consisting of himself, Andrew Guerin on bass, Jude Leynes on drums, and Lorelei Ye on keyboards. As the Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival said on the subject of The Stack:
“Known for their dynamic improvisation and tight rhythmic interplay, the band blends elements of traditional jazz, funk, and modern fusion [...] Together, they craft a sound that is both rooted in classic jazz traditions and forward-looking in its experimentation. Formed through a shared love of groove and spontaneity, The Stack brings high energy and creativity to every performance.”
Peters is actively accepting students of all levels within Waterloo Region and continues to hone his craft and artistry.
